About Me

My photo
I'm an Army wife and aspiring author, published by Evernight Publishing. I primarily write M/M, but I'm starting to branch out. I'm not very good at technology, but I'm hoping this blog gives me the opportunity to communicate with other authors and readers. My life is kept interesting by my soldier, Ringo the chihuahua, and all the amazing people that I consider friends. I also work entirely too much as a coach at a local gym, a caregiver at a church nursery, and a freelance baker.

Musical Monday 6/25

Hero has been out for almost a week. It's already a best seller on All Romance Ebooks (totally didn't see that one coming!). So you may be wondering what I'm up to.

Well, right now I'm in edits for my M/M/F Naughty Fairy Tale (a special line at Evernight). It's called Snow White and the Hitman and it's gonna be epic. Cover and release date pending on that one.

I'm also waiting for my turn at the editing stage for Evernight's Lover Unexpected anthology (preview in yesterday's 6 Sentence Sunday).

I'm currently working on an M/M erotic romance focusing on none other than....werewolves.

So today's song is Howlin' for You by The Black Keys.

So, the randomly selected winner of the free PDF copy of Hero is...Emily!

Congrats, I'll be e-mailing it to you tomorrow. I hope you enjoy it!

Oh and by the way, everyone, my mom says hi! She was totally surprised. She thought I was joking when I said I was going to put that in the blog post *evil laugh, fade to black*

6 Sentence Sunday 6/24

Hello and Happy Sunday.

Well, Hero has been released and I'd say it's doing alright...
So for today's 6, I'll be sharing an unedited bit from my contribution to Evernight Publishing's Lover Unexpected anthology. The story is called Coming Home. Release date is pending.

*ADULT CONTENT*

Without thinking, Craig kissed Toby. It immediately stopped his shivering. The initial kiss was just a brush of the lips, but Craig took it a bit further, pressing against Toby until the smaller man yielded, opening his soft lips and allowing Craig’s tongue to explore. Craig gently laid Toby down on the mattress and continued to kiss him. Toby’s hand started to explore Craig’s muscular chest.

The Manga and Romance blog hop ends at midnight tonight, stop by for a chance to win: http://khwkitten2010.blogspot.com/2012/06/manga-and-romance.html

Manga and Romance

Hello, blog hoppers!

I'm excited for yet another blog hop. My book, Hero, just released and so far it's gotten a few really nice reviews that I'm quite proud of. Don't forget that there's a grand prize with this hop, so be sure to comment for a chance to win awesome stuff!

Today, I want to talk about how I got started writing M/M romance. I'll spare some of the dirty details, because my mom follows my blog. Ha...ha...

Anyway...

I've been writing for a long time now and a few years ago, I decided to try something totally new to me. I decided to write a love story with two male characters. Surprisingly, I wasn't all that bad. I started posting my writing to Literotica and people actually liked it. I was shocked. I'm still shocked.

So it grew from that. I started reading other people's work and that's how I met some pretty amazing authors. That's when I learned what yaoi was. I watched a few of them and read a few. I had a short addiction to slash fanfics. It was intense and it all got me even more attached to what I was writing.

It just kept going until one day I decided I'd try to get published. After one rejection, Evernight Publishing picked me up and here we are today.

M/M romance will always have a special spot in my heart. I have strayed from it a bit with my second novella Snow White and the Hitman, but that was just me being young and stupid. I'll always love the gay boys and I will always write about them.

Everyone say hi to my mom in the comments, leave your e-mail, follow my blog and I'll pick a winner to get a free PDF copy of Hero!

OK, Mom, now you have to stop reading because there's gonna be some possibly NSFW pictures.

Release Day: Hero

Well, the day has arrived. Sink or swim time. Hero is available for purchase (links at the end of this post, will be added as they become available).

Today is just a crazy experience. I can't help but think of all the people I'm grateful to for making this happen. Of course, Evernight Publishing is amazing and I'm so glad to be part of the family there. I owe so much to all the old readers that have been with me since Literotica and the new readers joining me on this journey.

But there's one person that stands out, and that's my husband. He was patient with me throughout writing Hero, asking all my questions from the technical ones about how the Army works to the personal ones about his experience being deployed and coming home. Basically, he's my hero.

Us the day he came home from Iraq. The first time we'd seen each other in 8 months.
Alright, thanks for letting me have my cheesy moment. Anyway, the book is e-book only, but with purchase you will also receive a PDF, so buy away!
Aaron is a soldier preparing to deploy for the first time. During the process, he meets Oliver. There is an instant connection. The entire time that Aaron is overseas, the two continue to think of each other and wonder what could have been. Upon Aaron’s return, fate brings the two together again. Lust ignites a beautiful love.  However, in the Army change is bound to happen and relationships are put to the test. Hero follows the story of a brave couple facing the challenges of a military relationship.

Musical Monday 6/18

Holy crap...Hero comes out tomorrow! Oh my gosh, I'm not ready! Ah! *falls out of chair*

Anyway, to celebrate the impending release of Hero, I thought I'd share the song that started it all.

I was just listening to music one day and this popped up on my playlist. The song immediately put a scene in my head. I built the whole story around this one scene.

WARNING: This song is emotional and might be controversial to some.

6 Sentence Sunday 6/17

Hello everyone. Well, this is the last Sunday before Hero releases. Before I reveal the next 6 sentences, I'd like to announce the winner of the little giveaway I've been doing with these.

The winner was randomly selected so...

Congrats, naughtycouture! I hope you enjoy it.

Once again, I wish I could give everyone a free copy, but my husband says I can't do that. So I hope you'll all consider buying Hero when it releases on Tuesday!

As a bit of incentive, here's another 6 sentences from the book:

Aaron smiled and gently caressed Oliver’s cheek. Oliver felt himself getting lightheaded as those full lips approached his. When they kissed, Oliver’s knees went weak. His lips parted and Aaron’s tongue gently probed into his mouth. Being in Aaron’s arms was everything Oliver had imagined it would be. He was sure that if Aaron asked, he would do anything the soldier wanted right there in the parking lot.

All-Nighters

While I'm working on my writing it's not uncommon for me to stay up all night. Some nights (like last night) I just stay up all night staring at a screen. That's just how I operate and I might as well enjoy it while it's still an option. Sometimes, I can handle it. Sometimes....well, something like this happens.

Also, the Shameless Summer hop is still going strong, so visit my post for an excerpt from Hero and a giveaway! Follow the link: http://khwkitten2010.blogspot.com/2012/06/shameless-summer-hop-welcome-blog.html

Musical Monday 6/11

Down to 8 days until Hero is released so I thought I'd share one of the songs that I listened to while writing it. Separation is inevitable in any military relationship. This particular song is one that I listened to a lot while my husband (then fiance) was in Iraq. It helped me get back in that frame of mind so that I could make the separations in the book feel more real.

It's hard to believe the next time I do a Musical Monday post, it'll be the day before Hero comes out!

And now, 6 sentences:
ADULT CONTENT AHEAD

Oliver grinned and wrestled his way on top of Aaron. They exchanged frisky kisses and laughed. Oliver playfully bit Aaron’s neck and worked his way down Aaron’s body. He pulled Aaron’s boxers down and his eyes widened when eight and a half hard,  uncut inches flopped against Aaron’s abs. Oliver couldn’t help but stare and lick his lips. Aaron put his hand on the back of Oliver’s head and gently urged him forward.

Shameless Summer Hop

Welcome, blog hoppers!

First of all, I'd like to thank Jen at Red Hot Books, Brie at Romance Around the Corner & Michelle at Michelle's Book Blog for hosting this hop. It's very nice of them and means a lot to me as a newbie author.

Alright, let's get right in to the giveaway! I'm giving away a free e-copy of my upcoming book. The book comes out on June 19th and anyone is eligible to win. Hero follows the story of Aaron, a soldier, and Oliver, the man who loves him. The two deal with the trials and triumphs of love in the military.

All you have to do to win is:
1. Follow my blog!
2. Tell me hello in the comments.
3. Leave your e-mail address.

The winner will be selected randomly and announced at the end of the hop. You'll get your free e-copy of Hero as soon as it comes out!

Now, to make it worth your while, a sizzling excerpt from Hero!

Oliver shivered and let out a soft moan. “Look in the top drawer,” he whispered.
Aaron smiled and obliged. He set the box of condoms and bottle of lubricant on the bedside table and turned to Oliver. “Are you sure, baby?” Aaron sat at the edge of the bed and put his arm around the younger man.
“I trust you…I really do…I-I think…” Oliver bit his lip and looked at Aaron. “I love you,” he whispered.
Aaron kissed Oliver and they slowly lay back on the bed. Aaron positioned himself on top of Oliver and pressed his lips to his boyfriend’s forehead. “I love you too,” he said. They kissed for a moment longer before Aaron grabbed the supplies and set them beside Oliver on the bed. He smiled at Oliver and gently smoothed his lover’s dark hair away from his eyes.
He positioned Oliver’s hips at the edge of the mattress and knelt on the floor. He spread Oliver’s legs apart and smiled at the tight, pink rosebud. Aaron leaned forward, taking in the slight smell of soap before running his tongue over Oliver’s entrance. Oliver’s legs lurched and trembled in his hands, but Aaron continued what he was doing. Oliver was whimpering and moaning into his balled fist. He was always so shy about how loud he got during their encounters.
Aaron reached for the lube and opened the top. He coated his middle finger and slowly pressed inside Oliver. Oliver pushed himself down, urging Aaron to move faster. Aaron obliged and added a second finger. He saw Oliver wince and paused to kiss his boyfriend’s smooth stomach. “Doing alright, baby?”
“I’m OK,” Oliver whispered.

*fans self* Where was I? Oh, right!
Don't forget to keep hopping!

A chat with Gweall

Gweall and I have been writing partners for a while now and we've become friends along the way. We bicker at times, but overall writing with him is a blast. I've been so lucky to get to know him, I wanted to share the privilege with all of you. So, G and I sat down for a little chat after working on our latest collaboration.

K: Describe your favorite place to write.
G: At my desk. I'm too lame for a laptop so my options are kind of limited. More specifically, I sit in front of a window. Since it's spring, there's a bird's nest outside my window and I get to watch them hatch and grow up. If I did get the option of writing anywhere I wanted to, my favorite place would by lying on a trampoline. I don't know if anybody out there has ever done it, but it's extremely relaxing and kind of puts you in this weird Zen state. Very cool.

K: What inspired you to start writing?
G: I'm not sure I was really ever inspired. I just loved to write. I remember I would just have a huge notebook full of stuff I wrote. I just never thought it was any good so I never showed anybody or finished anything. Then one day I was like "well what the fuck." and started writing on Literotica. You can't believe how shocked I was when I started getting feedback saying they were so excited to see this new author on the scene yadda yadda. I honestly thought mine would be one of those stories that was so awful the comments would send me into hospitalization they were so mean.

K: Is there a story behind your Literotica pen name?
G: Ahahaaha. Yes and no. It was a year or two ago and I was making my account on Literotica so that I could post my first story. When I had to pick a name, it was something I had never thought of. So I sat there for an hour and tried to come up with something but couldn't. So I ended up finding this sketchy ass god and goddess name generator or something weird like that. Where you type in a word, and it gives you a fake name of the god or goddess of the thing. I think I typed in love or romance or something...

K: What is your solution for writer's block?
G: Whine and cry until it goes away....

K: We've worked together quite a few times. Which of our stories do you think is the best and why?
G: That's really hard to say. I think we work really well together and everything we type out kind of morphs into gold, even though 99% of it starts out as stupid jokes. I'm really excited about our new story. I'm not sure if it's just because it's on one of my favorite topics (Zombies) or what, but It's gonna be good.

K: Without embarrassing me too bad, what is the funniest moment from our time working together?
G: Ooooh. That's a hard one. I think it's a toss up between our frying pan and pizza conversation when we were writing Hybrid Chronicles: Micah & Declan. We were joking about it since you're from Texas and I'm from the valley (California, for those of you who live under a rock) and you just typed it out like it was the most normal thing in the world and I was like 'Wtf, who does that?' and we ended up turning it into a conversation in the story. OR it's our ongoing 'you're not a ninja' joke when one of us is writing and the other is being a creeper and reading what we're writing as we write it, the second person tries to correct mistakes without being noticed. (Kitten still hasn't beaten me yet ;) )

K: I'd say we work well together. Do you think that any two authors can work together or do you think it takes a certain chemistry?
G: I think it definitely has to do with a certain chemistry. Because you and I are so similar we can joke around and bounce ideas off of each other. I've tried to work with a couple of different authors before and we cant even get past the first page!

K: What is your favorite part of collaborating?
G: I think that our collaborating ends up being 80% stupid commentary and 15% eating and 5% writing. I think all of it's my favorite. We just work so well together, it turns out great.

K: What is one thing that you think readers would be surprised to know about you?
G: Uhh... Hehe. That's a hard one. But, I think what a lot of people are surprised to know about me is that I'm...well I guess technically I'm celibate. I don't date, or have sex. People always freak out since that's what my writing is all about. It's just not for me.

K: If you could give advice to future writers, what would it be?
G: I know a lot of writers say 'Don't be afraid to get out there, nobody is a bad writer.' But that's a total lie. There are some pretty bad writers out there. What they should say is that, Don't be afraid to get out there, nobody who enjoys writing is a bad writer. The only thing you need to worry about is if you're having fun when you write. If you like to read what you write, there is DEFINITELY another person out there who will want to read it with you.

If you want to spend more time with Gweall, you can check out his blog or follow him on Twitter.

Musical Monday 6/4

I don't know if this is an original idea or not, but I'm going to start a new tradition here at my blog. Many authors write with music in the background and I just thought I would share a few of my go-to tunes. While I can generally tolerate anything, I tend to migrate toward the alternative rock/metal categories and I'm quite loyal to my favorite bands.

So for our first Musical Monday, I present a favorite of mine. This song comes from the first band I ever fell in love with. Bat Country by Avenged Sevenfold

My new day job

Today I started my new job. It was on a trial basis, but they asked me back, so I'm super excited! Now, before I tell you what it is, you have to promise not to laugh (I'm pretending you just promised, so you better have done it)

...I'm working in a church nursery.

(I'm pretending you kept your promise and didn't laugh.)

I have to say, I freakin' love this job so far. There were 9 kids ranging from 5 months old to 3 years. They were all adorable and cute and sweet and they smelled like baby powder! Gah!

I spent most of the time with the 5 month old and he ended up falling asleep on me. Yeah, that pretty much made my maternal instinct kick me in the ovaries.

I'm looking forward to going back Wednesday!

6 Sentence Sunday 6/3

We're down to 16 days until Hero is released! Since it's Sunday, I'll be posting another 6 sentences from the upcoming novella.

You still have a chance to be entered to win a free copy. All you have to do is RT this link from my Twitter OR leave a comment below.

Without further ado, 6 sentences from Hero:
WARNING: ADULT CONTENT AHEAD!

Everything about it was perfect, from the warmth to the perfect suction of it, and it sent his nervous system into overdrive. Aaron looked up at him and Oliver knew it was over. Those brown eyes had him under the spell of a passion he’d never experienced before. Oliver tried his best, but he couldn’t fight what his body wanted. With a ragged cry, he came. His hips thrust forward out of his control and he could have sworn he saw stars.
